About this prompt
Diagnose Before You Fix
"It's broken, fix it" makes the agent guess, and guessing changes random things until one of them appears to work. A good bug report takes thirty seconds and gets the fix in one shot. This prompt is that report — what you did, what you got, what you expected, when it last worked and where it runs — plus a rule that the model must rank causes, run the confirming check, and only then propose the smallest fix that addresses the cause rather than the symptom.
How to use. Paste the full error output at the bottom; never summarise it. Fill in the six variables as literally as you can — the exact button, the exact message. The output ends with a one-minute verification step you can run yourself and a note on what would make it regress.
What to change. In an agentic tool (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex), the model will run the checks itself; in a chat tool it will describe them, and you run them. If you want no code touched until you approve, add "do not edit any file until I reply 'go'" after step 4.
Not a fit. Performance work without a reproducible failure, and bugs you have not reproduced yet — get the error text first.
