About this skill
Frontend Design Without AI Slop
Most agent-built pages look alike: cream background with a serif headline and a terracotta button, or a near-black page with one acid-green accent, identical rounded cards, an ALL-CAPS eyebrow over every heading, a "→" on every link. This skill names those defaults and makes the agent design around them. It works like a design lead's brief: ground the design in the subject's own world, plan a compact token system first (4–6 named colours, the typefaces and their roles, an ASCII wireframe, the principles), check that plan against the brief and revise anything that would come out the same for any similar product, and only then write code.
How it works. Install the skill and ask for a page, a component or a restyle as you normally would. The agent identifies the subject and audience (and proposes them when your brief does not say), writes the design plan, says what it revised and why, then builds. It keeps a quality floor without announcing it: responsive down to phone width, visible keyboard focus, reduced motion respected, accessible contrast. Where your brief pins a look, the brief wins, including when it asks for one of the "default" looks.
What you get. A plan you can read and push back on before any code is written, a page whose type, palette and layout come from your subject, and copy rules that remove filler: CTAs that say what happens, errors that explain the fix, sentence case, no unexplained numbered markers.
Worth having when you are tired of re-prompting "make it less generic". The skill puts that critique into the process, so the first build is already the second draft.

What we changed
- Renamed the skill to
frontend-design-no-slopand added one "Use when…" sentence to the description so agents pick it up for page, component and restyle requests. licensein the frontmatter now points toNOTICE.md, which records the upstream commit, the license and every change. The instruction body is unchanged.- Added a worked example of the plan the skill produces (see the preview on this page).
If the frontend-design plugin from Anthropic's plugin marketplace is also enabled in Claude Code, both answer the same requests; keep one of the two.
Checked against
Claude Code 2.1.317 (desktop app, Claude Opus 5.5), 2026-11-07. Installed under .claude/skills/frontend-design-no-slop/, loaded from SKILL.md and run end to end on a landing page for a volunteer bike-repair co-op: design plan, review against the brief, then a single index.html on approval. A rendered screenshot check was not possible in that environment. The example output on this page is from that run, shortened. Not yet checked: automatic triggering from the skill description in a fresh session (the run started from an explicit request), and Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and Gemini CLI, which read the same SKILL.md format but have not been run.
How to install
Copy the contents of files/ to .agents/skills/frontend-design-no-slop/ in your project (the shared skills folder) and to .claude/skills/frontend-design-no-slop/ (Claude Code), or download the zip and unpack it there. If your agent uses its own folder (.cursor/skills/, .github/skills/, .gemini/skills/), copy it there too. Then ask: "use frontend-design-no-slop to design …".
